PubsAndRestaurants
Note that Saturday night is the conference dinner. However some of us are staying Friday and/or Sunday evenings and will want entertainment, others may be here longer for the sprints and need somewhere to go after a long programming session.
There are lots and lots of places to eat and drink in Birmingham. Please do feel free to add your favourites. Also see the main site: http://www.pyconuk.org/eating_out_in_brum.html
Balti
- The Balti (curry cooked in a metal dish) and Tikka Masala were invented in Birmingham by Indian immigrants, getting a good curry is a local tradition.
- One such place would be the Balti Triangle. If you are arranging a Sprint before the conference then one easy social event after a hard-days programming would be to go to the off-licence then to a curry house (many are bring your own booze).
Pubs
- The Bull is the meeting place of Python West Midlands. Good food, beer and wireless access.
- The centre has half a dozen Wetherspoons pubs, a quiet (music free) place to get real ale and cheap meal, also worth going there for English Breakfast.
Night Clubs
Snobs is the Indie club with cheap booze that is often frequented by dishevelled computer geeks, so it may feel a bit more comfortable and safe than a more general nightclub. May well be where some of the younger/insomniac attendees will end up on Friday or Saturday night. Dress code: Jeans/T-shirts, no sportswear, baseball caps, etc. £2 entry before 11.30pm with the flyer available from the conference.
