Sprint
At Europython this year, the sprint was really popular and sprinters contributed code to many different projects. A sprint is an opportunity for collaborative programming, to learn about new projects and to have fun.
So the PyCon UK committee has decided that this year at PyCon UK, if required, we have a budget to hold a sprint on Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th September in the main conference venue (up to three rooms).
If the sprint is organised then there will be no cost to attend, but we won't have the canteen so we will eat lunch in a local pub/restaurant. If you want to come, you need to sort out time off work and somewhere to sleep, e.g. book extra nights at the Etap.
We have started discussions with a few open source projects that use Python about sprints, but there are only half a dozen of us in the committee, and there are several hundred of you, so we would really like to know what you, the UK Python community, want the sprint to cover.
There are some big projects we could work on (e.g. Django, PyPy), we could contribute to Python itself, e.g. look at bugs in the documentation or the standard library, or we could start a completely new project at the sprint.
The sprint won't happen unless some of you speak up and say you would consider coming and give us some ideas about what you want to do.
